Your Story

I have found that we all have a story in us to tell.  It’s your story.  It’s a complication of our memories and experiences.  Our memories that range from what we first remember from our childhood to what we did the day before.  The thing with experience it has many levels.  There is a personal life experience, work experiences.  Shared experiences from others are part of the journey.

Well that is how I perceive experience and the levels that vary.  I am certain you may have your own interpretation.   Which lead to how your story you write it is how you see it.  People have a wealth of knowledge within themselves and some write to share and others to educate.  Before the internet we had paperback books.

Technology has made it possible to share our stories on a global scale.  Blogs, electronic books (E-Books), and websites that store volumes of books like a library once held books on shelves.  Where I was working they gave me an invitation to guest speak to their members.  It was an opportunity to share some of my stories.  I am sure you may have heard of International Toastmasters.

This was the group of members I was asked to come and do a talk as a guest speaker.    I spoke on “Actions Conquers Fear” and “Choice- It has the Power to Shape Our Reality”.  It struck a chord to the audience and I was asked I was asked to come back to speak.
The following week I thought carefully what story should I share for my next talk.  Then it was clear as to what I should speak on.

 “Actions Conquers Fear”

We are always influenced by those who our inner circle.  I call it, “Circle of Influence”.  The day came for me to share my story.  What made this day different than the last time was after I had finished speaking.   They handed out ballots to vote on the best table topic.  I was not present for the first two speakers and I chose not to vote.

The ballots were counted and the acting Chairperson was handed a piece of paper.  They opened and then announced who was voted.   “Today’s Best Table Topic Award goes to Gordon Pound.”  I was stunned and surprised.  I stood up and shook their hand and they handed me a mock trophy to represent the award.   The actual award was a blue ribbon.

I cleared my throat, “I like to thank my mom, Coach Whymby and oh me.”  The members burst into laughter.  Chairperson presented me with my blue ribbon.  Then I stayed for the rest of the session.  Now I have two things that I have gained that I had not thought I would have.   I have asked to come back again and I have an award symbolizing the impact my stories have on others.

It seems the stories I have the privilege to share were relative to their situations and I was not guided on what I should speak about.  Two weeks later I was guest speaking for them again.  The topic was, "Do We Learn from It or Linger on it?  The Choice Is Our Own To Make."

In the beginning of these talks I share a joke that is relative to the topic I am speaking on. The one I shared was about how a man’s wife keeps taking the picture of him and putting into her hand bag and taking it to work and brings it back?

She explains that when she has a problem she takes the photo of him out and looks at it and the problem disappears.  The husband grins and gave thanks that he can help solve her problems.  The wife then tells that he has the wrong idea.  She looks at the photo of him and thinks what could be worse.  The members laughed and some of the facial expressions from the women they could relate.

We all have a story and the greatest thing about being a story teller is if you don't like what you did today.  You have the power to write a new page in your book of Life.

Perception is Reality

We view the world by how we see or perceive it to be.  Everyone has their own perception of reality.  For me, I see it as we are the “Architects of our own Design”.   What we think determines how we see things.  Perception is Reality to some degree.  Take The Matrix and though it was a movie it has much to do how we “See” the world in our eyes.   When Anderson decided to change his perception; his world that he had lived changed and so how he sees.

 “Architects of our own Design”

The Matrix was a major eye opener some of us and revealed to the world to think different about how we view our world or Reality.  Some view their Life as a preordained and there is a plan.  Others feel that it is determined by Fate.  Then there are folks like me.  We choose and we are “Creators of Worlds” What we create is our own World – RealIty.  Over the years I have discovered with the conversations I have shared with others.  That if people were to apply the just a few of the teachings of that are revealed in the book of Laws of Attraction or in The Secret.

Years ago I was focusing a great deal on the debt I had.  It just kept getting worse.  It was when I stopped focusing on the debt and chose to consciously that I was ok and all will work out.  Then I had money coming from sources I have never expected.  It does not mean I go buy a lottery ticket or go to the casino and play Black Jack.  My Reality was changed because my perception had.

We all have the “Free Will”.  It allows us to make good and bad choices which in turn build our Reality.  There is the element of “Common Sense”.  But I have come to witness that common sense is not quite always common.  I to have behaved and someone had said, “That’s just plain common sense!”

However, I have come to understand that I am my brain is wired differently and it is that wiring that has me thinking differently or better yet.  My perception is different and what may be considered “Common Sense” to others.  It is a unfamiliar concept to me.  But I am learning to use more “Common Sense”.
Reality is based on the input that our brain is getting from the surrounding s we are in and then creating the world how we perceive it.  But you control what is real by how you think.  Your thoughts are threads in your tapestry.  You choose the colors and how it is sharpened.

"Your thoughts are threads in your tapestry."

Help or Hinder

I just have to say that “See You At The Top”, is a great read.  I encourage anyone who is seeking guidance or personal growth to go get this book.

It’s very true what Zig Ziglar said how we don’t live alone.  There are times where a person may feel “alone” or “lonely”.  We are not really alone as we may come to think or believe.  It is true we hold the “KEY” to the future of others.

"It is true we hold the “KEY” to the future of others."

I have an experience I would like to share with you.  It is relative to our topic.  I am not going go into the details of the situation that they were in.  I hold a “KEY” within me.  It unlocked her future, which transformed their life.

At the time this took place.  I was living in Kelowna, British Columbia.  There is an amazing pizza restaurant and I went to visit with the owner.  I was about half way into the establishment and then a girl starts calling out my name.  “Gordie, Gordie, Gordie!” As I turn around I found myself holding a girl in my arms.  She had leaped onto me and wrapped her arms and legs around me.

“Thank you! Thank you Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”  Is what she said with great excitement.  I had no idea of what she was talking about.  I then asked what she was talking about?  It turns out several months earlier, she had a situation.  I had a friend staying with me and his friend which is the girl that had leaped on to me.  He tapped my bedroom door and appeared concerned and upset.

He said that he didn’t know what happened but he knew I could help her.  It seems the session we had had created a change in them.  Her eyes were full of life and a smile that revealed joy.  “Because of you I no longer do drugs, smoke and I drink less that I did before.” This is why she was giving me thanks.

I explained that all I was a guide.  That she was off her path and her Inner Self will do the rest.  It shows what Zig Ziglar said in his book.  “Our actions and deeds affect other people, many of who we never know.  In this case, I had the pleasure of being able to participate in her journey.  That my actions they had an impact on her life.  In such a way that she found her true potential.  Just remember, we can help or hinder people and their future.

"Do We Learn From It or Linger On It? The Choice Is Our Own To Make."

I was inspired by a conversation that I had with a very dear friend.  During our chat, I said to her, “Do we learn from it or linger on it?”  Which has a ring of truth to it, do we take from the experience a lesson learned or do we dwell and wonder what if?

“Do we learn from it or linger on it?”

I can only share with you from my own volumes that are in my Library of Life.  In this particular series I will admit that I have had my fair share of lessons and times of lingering.  The thing is this, the choice is our own to make.  I have ridden the Emotional Roller Coaster.  The ups and downs along with the curves and bends have caused queasy spells.

“The Emotional Roller Coaster”
We all have our own Library of Life to pull out moments or a memory from.  This topic was prompted from a conversation and I felt it was important to share that it is ok.  Either way you choose.  It is yours to experience and you can grow from the situation.  Or let it grind your life to a stop.  Then your life is on hold and in most cases it is not just you who has been put on hold.

Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still.
Chinese Proverb

What is important is your journey.  You can help yourself and you alone.  To expect another to fix your situation is in my opinion a bit inconsiderate.  I can say that because I have done that to others and that was only impacting me from becoming the person who I am now.  I welcome the negative because from it the positive is a lesson and hopefully I was able to learn from it.

“What is important is your journey”

There times I have not learned the lesson and have repeated the experience.  But to know that I have done this shows that I can distinguish there is a difference.  That one step forward in my book and individual results will vary for certain.  But if I can you can and that at least is a something to think about.  I am saying for me it was not good to linger in the past because it put my future on pause and was not growing.

“Should we heed to repeat the lesson”

A plant needs sunlight to grow.  If you deprive it of sunshine, then you stunt its ability to mature and reach its potential.  It is the same when you choose to linger.  You prevent from maturing to your full potential.  Learning is your sunshine and gives you the building blocks to develop that ever evolving being that you are by design made to be.
